My Spirit/Totem Animal Died in my Dream Last Night

Crocodiles have been visiting me in my dreams for the past 20+ years. Stopping by once every month or 2. Sometimes I am a bit timid or nervous in the dreams, but never truly afraid. The crocodile has never harmed me and I only once remember one coming after me as I ran through the forest, that dream was 20 years ago. Last night, for the first time in one of these crocodile dreams, the crocodile died. It makes me a little sad. I feel like there is meaning in this and I will have to think on it some more. I’ll be curious to see if the crocodile ever visits me again. (I did have a dream almost 2 weeks ago with million year old petrified crocodiles, but that was different. It seemed to represent ancient reptilian energy, not death of a crocodile.)

Dream:

I was on a front stoop in front of a house. It’s just a concrete slab with a couple steps. I was there with a friend M and one of her daughters. All the sudden there was a large crocodile and his big giant head was a foot away from us. It just appeared on the stoop. I remember saying is that okay? That seems dangerous? Should we go inside? The crocodile was moving his head around on the stoop sniffing, looking for stuff. It wasn’t really bothering us, but it was very close. We wanted to get inside, but the door was closed. We were a little nervous about drawing attention to ourselves by getting the door open. But then we got inside the house.

Later, I was telling people about the crocodile and how it was only a foot away from me. At one point a young girl, maybe M’s daughter, is teasing the crocodile outside. She’s banging on the glass which makes the crocodile bang its head on the glass and paw at the glass. I tell her to stop because I’m afraid the crocodile will break the glass and come into the house.

Later, M says the crocodile is dead. It died from being over heated or starving or something out on the porch. She says after it died the cat attacked its dead body. It scratched it all up and dragged it into the house. I see the crocodiles dead body. There is blood and scratches all over its belly. It is a little sad and disturbing. I am surprised by the croc’s death. For some reason I want to photo it. I want to capture how large this thing is to tell people the story about how I was only a foot away from it when it was alive. I take a photo of it and in the camera it shows up as a jazz band. It looks like an old time photo. It’s brown and fuzzy, especially around the edges. As if the photo is capturing a window into the past through the crocodile. There are 5 or 6 people in the jazz band. Many brass instruments. I’m very confused by this. I photo the croc a few more times and each time the exact same photo of the jazz band comes up. I think this is very bizarre. The only thing I can figure is the jazz band is the spirit of the crocodile being captured in the photo.

(I’ve had 2 other dreams I can remember where I took a picture of something. In 1 the picture looked normal. In the other, I was photoing my family and the spirit of my dead father appeared in the photo of us. In the dream, I took it to mean that my Dad was watching over us)

  1. Hello Lost Truth,

I sometimes have dreams with snakes or alligators, they seem to appear out of nowhere and usually more will appear, and they usually do not bother me if I keep my distance.

I am surprised that you did not find it odd that a cat was somehow able to cause that kind of damage to a crocodile, and then be able to drag it inside the house. πŸ˜€

The part about the photographs of the crocodile showing up as an old image of a jazz band is even more interesting, confusing, unique, creative, strange, et cetera.

My only guess about that is that maybe there is some kind of association in your mind between crocodiles and something to do with the jazz band and / or jazz and / or that time period, maybe crocodile skin shoes or clothing or a name of band or the name of a song et cetera, but who knows.

Thank you for sharing your dream.

    1. The crocodile was already dead. I’m pretty sure the car could rip open the crocs stomach with its claws. But I doubt it would be able to drag it into the house. I’ve seen a few different cats playing with dead lizards before though. Batting them and throwing them like a toy. I’d guess that’s how my mind made the connection.

I think you’re right about the association of crocodiles and jazz. Crocodiles make me think of rivers, spanish moss and the bayou. Which makes me think of Lousiana. And Louisiana is defintiely Jazz music.

Thanks for your comment John Jr.

      1. Hello Lost Truth,

I knew that it was dead, but I have my doubts about a cat being able to rip through a crocodiles skin because it is pretty tough and leathery and there are usually layers of protection (at least for alligators, I am not sure about crocodiles, the stomach area is probably weaker though but still possibly durable enough to give a cat a hard time). πŸ˜‰

Cool, I may be on to something there. πŸ˜€

You are welcome, and thank you for responding.

      2. Hello Lost Truth,

        *Off-Topic*

Have you considered setting your Reading Settings | Front Page Displays Setting back to the default setting of Your Latest Posts?

I can not speak for anyone else but on my blog my Home Page (Front Page) is usually my most viewed page each day, usually more views than all my viewed posts of the day combined.

So I think that having your Latest Posts showing on the Home Page (Front Page) by using the default setting probably helps more readers to see more of your posts and to be more likely to view more of your posts because I assume that most people are not likely to look around trying to find your posts (even if they are listed in the Recent Posts widget, which I think is a helpful widget, but I think that more people find your posts from the Home Page than just from a widget but it helps to have both in my opinion) so having them right there is probably easier for most viewers but I could be wrong. πŸ˜‰

        1. Thank you for thinking of this and suggesting the idea. I just looked into it, but it seems the only way I can display my posts on the home page is to only display my posts and not have an introduction. I can’t seem to find a way to have the blog posts display below my writing and I do not want a home page that only shows blog posts and nothing else. Maybe with a different theme I could do it and maybe I will look into this at another time because I think you are right that it may be nice to have some posts appear on the home page.

          Thanks for the advice!

          1. You are welcome Lost Truth. πŸ™‚

You are correct, only certain themes support that, I will try to remember to look around for some recent themes that support that and I will try to let you know if I find some. πŸ˜‰

Another option is to make a post that is meant to serve as your introduction, and you can make that post a Sticky Post where it will always shows at the top of your other posts. πŸ˜‰

          2. It seems that it is your lucky day, besides the Sticky Post idea, you can actually keep the theme that you got now because your current theme actually supports a Front Page (Home Page) that can show various things, the page for your theme even explains your various options which is pretty cool πŸ™‚ :
